Subject: AM Radio Contacts possible with B-29

In case you are not aware, the B-29 Aircraft known as "FiFi" will be
on the air
later this week. The following schedule that was sent by Bob, K3NT,
who just
finished restoring the radios. -- Ken, W9ZMR [log in to unmask]

"FIFI" The World's only Flying B-29 SuperFortress

The ROCKWELL COLLINS radio clubs in Cedar Rapids and Richardson, TX
have been
working hard to restore both the HF transmitter and receiver on "FIFI"
to
operating condition. Phase one is now complete with an operational
ART-13 and
BC-348. The ART-13, standard on every WWII B-29, is an AM, CW, and MCW
Transmitter. Additionally, a new HF antenna has been installed on
"FIFI". We are
now close to being ready to operate both in flight and ground on the
amateur
radio HF frequencies.

In addition to supporting "FIFI" and our CAF squadron, our mission is
to
preserve the memory of the B-29 Radio veterans and their stories by
faithfully
maintaining and operating the equipment named in their honor. We are
planning to
have a dedication ceremony for the "FIFI" radio operator position on
the morning
of Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Addison, TX B-29/B-24 hangar.
Speaking at this
event will be Hank Erwin, son of B-29 Radio Op Medal of Honor
recipient Henry
"Red" Erwin, and Clyde Huseey, B-29 Radio Operator on The Last Mission
of WWII
(August 14-15, 1945). Our mission is to honor all B-29 radio
operators, and
dedicate the Smith-Erwin Memorial Radio Position.

Our desire is to have as many WARBIRD lovers, amateur radio operators,
short
wave listeners, historians along with interested parties and their
families in
attendance as possible for this June 30, 2012 event. To attend the
event in
person go to the Cavanaugh website at Cavanaugh Flight Museum 4572
Claire
Chennault Addison, TX 75001 (972) 380-8800 or see the flyer
information at
http://www.formstack.com/landing/caf-addison

The additional purpose of this communications is to target radio
operators that
use Amplitude Modulation and maybe able to help spread the word and
even
communicate over-the-air with the Smith-Erwin Memorial Radio Position
on "FIFI"
the B-29 Super Fortress. We are planning some tests of the B-29
restored station
this week (some radio tests may be while flying) before the Saturday
event so be
sure to have an ear on the 40 meter AM frequencies (7.160 MHz or 7.290
MHz)
Possible Saturday on air activities may include 20 meters (14.286
MHz). Please
realize that this is WWII vintage radio equipment and our small team
is still in
the preliminary stages of phase two operations complete with the yet
uncovered
Murphy's law challenges. Join in - and be part of the fun.

Please help spread the word by talking up the event in your local area
both on
and off the air through any means you feel will be effective. Let's
help keep
these WARBIRDS flying and communicating.
