Well I dabbled in the black arts of QRP this weekend, running the
TS-590 on a battery. Did 5 watts, CW only and almost 100 percent S and P.
Finished with 150 QSO's 160 through 15 meters, and around 60 ARRL/RAC
sections.
My antennas are modest, and I was surprised how easy it was to work a
boatload of west coast stations on 15 and 20 meters with only 5 watts.
40 was good, but crowded. I was surprised at the success I had on 75,
working from Georgia to New England, and as far west as Wisconsin from
the Philly area. Only 3 QSO's on 160, with EMA being the longest.
I'm not ready to sell the amps, but it was in interesting weekend and
more fun than I had expected.
