The palamar bridge has a 1/16 amp fuse in the input which will offer some 
protection.
I have used them successfully.
The version they call the "tuner tuner" is fixed at 50 ohms and contains no 
pot.

I also have the tentec bridge and it works similarly to the vectronics. 
However, no protection circuitry.
