Ron, probably everybody will recommend their own radio, because they know it 
and if they didn't love it they would not keep it.

The Kenwood 2000, 570, 480, and 590 get great reviews.  The icom 7000 and 
7200 give a bit less information but may have some better features.
Eilcraft k2 k3 and now kx3 are absolutely fantastic radios, with IF and 
audio features far beyond anything else for the price.
I guess what bands and modes you want to operate will make a difference in 
your choices as well.

Some of the yaesu rigs will talk the frequency read out.
You can spend from $500 up to $5,000 if you want.  Heck you can spend 
$11,000 if you want to.
