Hi Jim,

I agree with Howard and Mark.  I've had several rigs with internal tuners 
and an external tuner has always done a better job both on power loss and 
received signal.  I don't like auto tuners as I can do a much better job of 
adjusting the tuner than the automatic ones can, so they aren't worth the 
extra price in my opinion.  I do use a noise bridge to quickly adjust my 
external tuner and that helps a lot.
