No, "forwarding" or "opening" a port for echo link to work will not
adversely effect any other operation of your router.
the way you get to your router is at the run dialog type
http://192.168.1.1 and press enter.
and there you go to
Port Forwarding / Port Triggering
and press enter.
and after that you click on the radio button which says " Port Forwarding
then, fill in the information.

192.168.1.3 (or your computer address which may be .2 at the end)
