Camera tripod modified to be guyed off with tent stakes will get you 
up in the air the height of the usual tripod, about five feet or so.

Once guyed off, the tripod should be able to support (if modified to 
do so) a vertical mast made out of sections of whatever you'd like 
that fit together like a folding cane.  Heck, if you could figure out 
how to mount your antenna on the end of it, you could possibly USE a 
rather stout folding cane if you can figure out how to mount it to 
the tripod and it'll support the weight of your antenna.  *grin*

My personal choice for portable VHF/UHF antenna deployment is 
probably going to settle down on the ladder line J-pole, some 
cordage, fishing weights, and a slingshot.
