Well Steve, long story:
My license lapsed in 98 or 99, maybe it was 97 because 87 was the last time I remember renewing. My ... advanced ... license stayed lapsed for so long that I lost my call sign. In 04 or 05 I had to start all over; so I got my tech, then upgraded to general and bought my old callsign back. Now since there ain't no advanced, I'm gonna (sooner or later) have to try for the extra.

Hmmm, Howard, how did you get a 25-year term on your license, or are you now expired? Or, did I misread your posting ... the last time I renewed in 1987???

This is a puzzle to me. Is renewing one's license a dificult task that
can't be done independantly by a blind person? The last time I renewed
(1987), all there was to do was fill out a form. In those days, there was
no internet nor on-line solutions; so I had to have someone do the form for
me. But in this day-and-age, there ought to be a way, huh?
