Scott,

I think it's more a question of not knowing what accessibility means for a 
screen reader user.  Most sighted people don't even understand how a blind 
person can use a computer, and if they do, they seldom understand what a 
screen reader does.  I can't count the number of times I've been asked how 
my speech recognition software works, and how surprised my listeners are 
when I point out that typing isn't the issue, but reading the screen is.  As 
frustrating as it is for us, explaining our access needs is a huge task.
