Unfortunately I have done this several times.

An old 64 meg one lost 8 meg, but the more recent ones have survived in tact with all data still present.

My 15$ talking watch has also been through three times and survived - absolutely amazing!

I just learned you can send a thumb drive through the washer, and it will 
work.  Didn't try the dryer.
