If you're hearing them fine and they're not hearing you, high power might
fix it, or a better antenna. If you're not hearing the repeaters all that
well, something's going on there weather it's something's blocking you,
maybe you need to look at a magnet mount stuck to something, something like
that will help you. I live in a metal house, the siding is metal so for me,
I know what it is not to have luck with a hand held inside, I can't hit
anything unless I'm in a window and that's even questionable and directional
as can be. I prefer HF though and have outside antennas for when I do need 2
meters but I know how it can be. If you're having trouble hearing the
repeaters though, likely you need to try near a window, or maybe a magnet
mount antenna on a filing cabinet or something, if you have a balcony maybe
something low profile out there.
