I experienced the same thing and believe someone fell asleep when developing this feature. In fact my only complaints with the speech is the fact you cannot speed it up and you cannot set what things speak. For example, when I adjust the filter I would rather not hear "shift 600" blah blah.
Otherwise, the voice is really great on this rig.
