Regarding the mast issue, I went through those sorts of decisions about a 
year and a half ago.  I have two suggestions for you:



1.  Check out the Channelmaster types of masts.  You can get both telescopic 
and single-piece masts.  The trick is to find a dealer in your area, but a 
google should help you there.



and



2.  Don't forget about Radio Shack.  They still sell sections of mast that 
are very useful and durable.
