I have a P 200 K-6 with 32 mg EDO, I have
CD-ROM, Iomega Zip drive,
Printer, Scanner, Sound Card.
I am using Fat 32, no Dos installed
except from the Windows's 95
OSR2 disk. I am trying to find out how I can
lower the amount of memory
being used in the Conventional 640k, at the
ms-dos prompt I am using 72k
and 568k free.
Last night I put "rem" in my Config.sys, this is the only line of
command: remDEVICE=C:\CDROMDRV\CYBIDE.SYS /D:CD003 and now show 52k
being used and 588 free at the MS-DOS Prompt and at the Dos Prompt it is
showing 49k used and 591 free, and the CD-ROM is working fine.? Which
made a noticeable difference in performance, I am hoping that this will
make some since out of my problem or help. It shows no drivers are
loaded for the CD-ROM when the PC boots, I looked into Device Manager
and all is fine. I am not sure if I am correct at adding the "rem" in
Config.sys. This is the only partial solution I have found, I would like
to increase the free conventional memory to at least 600k.
Or if there is a way to
determine what program is using
what amount of memory. I have tried placing
"rem" on lines in win.ini
and system.ini also adding command lines in
autoexec.bat and config.sys.
I have removed Icons from the startup folder,
that increased it by 1k on
the free side of the memory. I do not know
where to look at this point
to try and improve this problem.
I would
appreciate any advise or help.
Thanks
Scott Kline
