I had an intensive discussion with someone who said the pressure on Babili Mansa is high and justice for Deyda will be served sooner or later.
The usual pranks of Jammeh are just meant to make critics angry.
Jammeh knows that his critics are obsessed with him. Once he says he will rule for forty years, one billion years, behead homosexuals, do this and do that, the critics go berserk.
So for him it is just a game to make them angry. He is just a bad boy. He knows that ruling for one billion years is not possible but the critics are so obsessed that they take every word of Jammeh too serious.
Give Jammeh a microphone and he will perform political drama just for fun. Relax guys and see things in a laid-back way as I do. No stress.
Anyway on this solemn occasion of remembering Deyda Hydara who contributed immensely to my training as journalist, salute his family, colleagues and all others awaiting justice.

Coalition for Human Rights in the Gambia Calls for “Justice for Hydara Now!”
The Coalition for Human Rights in the Gambia (CHRG) and the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) hail the recent legal action undertaken by the Hydara family and their backers as the right step towards ensuring justice in the 2004 assassination of Deyda Hydara.
The family of the late Deyda Hydara, the slain Gambian editor and co-publisher of The Point newspaper, a privately-owned Banjul-based daily, has filed a writ at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Community Court in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, seeking full investigations into the editor’s killing on 16th, December 2004.
The writ filed on behalf of the late journalist’s two sons: Deyda Hydara Jr and Ismaila Hydara and supported by the Dakar-based Africa Regional Office of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ-Africa) and the Open Society Justice Initiative, is so far the third case of human rights violations brought against the regime of President Yahya Jammeh at the ECOWAS Community Court. The Accra-based sub-regional rights body, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) had previously filed two other cases against the Gambian government at the same court.
The CHRG and FAJ regard this development as a healthy and fitting move in our quest to ensure justice in the case; as well as to help end impunity over numerous cases of attacks against journalists, human rights activists and the larger population by the regime of President Yahya Jammeh.
Deyda Hydara, 58, a press freedom advocate and ardent critic of the Yahya Jammeh regime, was killed by unidentified gunmen same day after his newspaper celebrated
its 13th anniversary on December 16, 2004. He was shot three times in the head. Two of his female staff, Ida Jagne and Nyang Sarang Jobe, who were with him in his car, also sustained gun shot wounds.
Since the killing, there has been no serious nor independent investigation into the matter and, no one has yet been brought to book for this heinous crime.
Reviewing all the actions and inactions by the Gambian government following the unfortunate incident, CHRG and FAJ are left wondering whether there are some people within the Yahya Jammeh regime bent on ensuring the late journalist’s death remains a mystery forever.
We strongly believe that it is about time justice took its course in this heinous crime committed against Deyda Hydara and all other cases of human rights violations that have happened in the Gambia.
As we observe the seventh year anniversary of the cold-blooded murder of one of the finest sons of the Gambia and a leading press freedom advocate, we say to everyone who cares for the truth and human rights: “justice for Hydara now!”
We wish to take this opportunity to commend the Hydara family, the IFJ Africa office and other backers for coming up with the case at the ECOWAS Community Court, which development, we hope would help to bring justice for Hydara sooner rather than later.

La coalition pour les droits humains en Gambie demande « Justice pour Hydara maintenant ! »
La Coalition pour les Droits Humains en Gambie (CDHG) et la Fédération Africaine des Journalistes (FAJ) accueillent favorablement l'action judiciaire récemment intentée par la famille Hydara et ses soutiens comme une bonne étape pour que justice soit faite après l'assassinat en 2004 de Deyda Hydara.
La famille du défunt Deyda Hydara, coéditeur et rédacteur en chef du journal The Point, un journal privé basé à Banjul, a adressé un recours à la Cour de Justice de la Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) à Abuja, capitale du Nigeria, demandant une enquête libre et indépendante dans l’assassinat de l’éditeur le 16 décembre 2004.
Déposé au nom de Deyda Hydara Jr et Ismaila Hydara, deux fils du défunt avec l’appui du Bureau Afrique de la Fédération Internationale des Journalistes (FIJ) basé à Dakar et de l’Open Society Justice Initiative, ce recours est le troisième du genre déposé contre le régime du Président Yahya Jammeh à la Cour de Justice de la CEDEAO. La Fondation des Médias de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (MFWA) basée à Accra au Ghana avait auparavant soumis deux autres cas contre le gouvernement gambien à la même Cour.
La CDHG et la FAJ considèrent cette action comme une initiative salutaire que la justice puisse prévaloir dans ce cas précis ; mais aussi pour mettre fin à l’impunité après les nombreux cas d’attaques contre les journalistes, les défenseurs des droits humains et une bonne partie de la population par le régime du Président Yahya Jammeh.
Deyda Hydara, 58 ans, défenseur de la liberté de la presse et critique ardent du régime de Yahya Jammeh, a été sauvagement abattu par trois balles dans la tête par des hommes armés non identifiés quelques le même jour après la célébration du 13e anniversaire de son journal le 16 décembre 2004. Ida Jagne et Nyang Sarang Jobe, deux femmes membres de son personnel qui étaient avec lui dans le véhicule ont également survécu aux blessures par balles.
Depuis ce massacre, aucune enquête sérieuse n’a été ouverte pour faire la lumière sur cette affaire et aucun suspect n’a pour le moment été identifié, encore moins arrêté.
En passant en revue toutes les actions et considérant l’inertie du Gouvernement gambien suivant l'incident malheureux, la CDHG et la FAJ restent convaincus qu’il y a des individus couverts par le gouvernement qui œuvrent pour que l’assassinat de Hydara demeure un mystère pour toujours.
Nous croyons fortement qu'il est temps que justice soit faite contre ce crime honteux commis contre Deyda Hydara ainsi que tous les autres cas de violations de droits humains qui se sont produites en Gambie.
En ce septième anniversaire de ce meurtre ignoble d’un des plus valeureux fils de la Gambie et principal défenseur de la liberté de la presse et à tous ceux qui sont épris de vérité et des droits de l'homme, nous disons :"Justice pour Hydara maintenant !"
Nous saisissons cette occasion pour féliciter la famille de Hydara, le Bureau Afrique de la FIJ et tous ceux qui les appuient pour avoir relevé ce cas devant la Cour de Justice de la CEDEAO pour que la justice puisse prévaloir le plus rapidement possible.
