Hi Colin: 

The overall length of the antenna would change by the formula: 
1005/7.15 = 140.559 where 7.15 would be the middle of the 40M band. 
Take away the 102 feet I already have in the G5RV, you get  38.559. 
Dividing this 38.559 in 2, this is the amount I'd add to each end of the G5RV, closing them up.  
I would then have a some what oval structure. I'm thinking then I could cut open the side, and attaching the ladderline section here or reattach my 4/1 balun and sealing it up completely. 
I did discover that when I took down my windom the other day, the balun drained water out of the PL-259 connector and my feedline had a quite a few cuts in the shielding. I'm thinking all of this lead to my problems in the vary beginning.
