Hi Bruce,
Since you seem to have things figured out with your mounting rack, the following may be of no consequence,
but the usual way I lift data of a loose internal drive is by using an IDE/SATA to USB adapter or mount it into an IDE/SATA to USB enclosure.
The adapter is the quickest. nothing to install.
Downside: this arrangement is a bit slower for transfer than HDD to HDD, but not that important for limited transfer.

Well, I believe I saw that both the computer and the hard drive supported cable select. And the end connector is black and the middle grey, an indication of cable select. But in the absence of other options, breaking the box open and changing the jumpers to master and slave seems worth trying.
It's funny, it took me a very long time figuring out the EZ in, EZ out drive mounting rack - - far more time than it would have taken me to put the new one in the old fashioned way. But now that I am going to be checking things out, it should be much easier. I will be doing that in the morning so if anybody else has any suggestions they would be appreciated.
Bruce
