Hi -
In the UK, for bread or for any other products, I'd be inclined to:
- Make it yourself if it's reasonable to do so. A bread machine is a good
investment, as is an ice-cream maker for sorbets.
- Look for kosher-marked products. (My web page, listed below, gives some
information about kosher markings.) PAREVE products may contain to milk or
milk-derived products. (Different hechshers, aka kosher certifiers, have
differing standards of strictness. Your local Jewish synagogue should be able
to give you further information about kosher foods in your area.)
- Eat sourdough bread. The recipe doesn't call for milk. I've never (in the
US, where I live) encountered a sourdough that contained milk products.
DOn't hesitate to phone or send mail to manufacturers. Many will be happy to
tell you which foods are safe to eat.
