there IS AN EXTRA PIN ON THE ADAPTER PLUG THAT DOES NOT LET THE CHARGE 
CURRENT THROUGH.  I I used that one for the battery because the plug 
switches it off when you use outside power.  The battery lasts a few months, 
and I have thought about putting a switch in the circuit to disconnect the 
battery as in an on off switch.
