Strictly speaking, a fast means eating nothing, consuming only water. That's
a famine condition by another name. 

Occasional cleansing makes sense and can pretty well be ongoing assuming use
of high fiber vegetables and certain herbs that cleanse the liver. A
consider source of elevated cholesterol levels are associated with
cholesterol re-uptake due to inadequate dietary fiber. Same with elevated
estrogen levels due to low levels of probiotics.
