Moving on another tangent with regard to typing speeds on a computer ...
I have found that my effective typing speed has slowed right down on the
computer, even on those rare occasions when I happen to be typing from
copy and thus not watching the screen.

The problem is that for a significant amount of time, I know when I have
made a keying error ... possibly even within the same moment that my
finger is actually striking the key ... and so I stop and correct it as
I go rather than have to spend time proofreading for typos later.
Whilst this does great things for my accuracy, it does disastrous things
for my speed! Good for when I am actually writing something (99.9% of
the time), bad if I want to impress people or find out how fast I can
actually type.

This has become the norm for me, so that the doing of a test in the
'old-fashioned' way where you ignore errors and just keep plowing on is
now very difficult - I recall trying to do one several years ago and
getting very frustrated.

This is very cool. I am fascinated by it.

They talk a lot in baseball about feats that may never be achieved and
records that will never be broken. I had not thought about it before,
but this is another kind of record that is likely never to be broken,
because its time has passed.

It's hard to imagine what he might have done with a computer keyboard
[reduced it to a spooge (thank you Rude for my word of the day) of
molten plastic?].
