Bob,

You are right about the difference in the fan activity between the 2000 
and 590.   When I got my 2000 ten years ago, the amount of fan activity 
and fan noise was  one of the first things I noticed.

According to the 590's In Depth Manual (which is on the Kenwood site), 
they designed the radio for better cooling.  Instead of the single fan 
on the rear panel of the 2000, there are 2 smaller fans running at lower 
speed placed at the front of the 590.  Supposed to cool better at lower 
speed/noise.

I'm enjoying mine and hope I get  a decade of good use out of it as I 
did the 2000.
