It could still be a case of a crossover cable being used. Many newer
computers, especially if the ethernet port is a Gbit interface, probably
have auto-MDI/MDIX switching, meaning that the other computer that works
is possibly automatically switching to compensate for the crossover,
whereas the problem computer is not capable of doing so.
It is a very simple thing to try a different cable that is known to be a
straight cable.

Thanks for your good suggestion however, that is not the problem in this
case. Cable works fine when used on other computer connected to the router.
