Hal,
You could check the drive manufacturers website to see if there is a firmware update for the drive.  You could check their website for drivers rather than using the default drivers that are probably controlling it now.   You could also try to delete the device from your system and reboot, it should reinstall the device and default drivers.  
Failing those options, the drive just may be bad.

Suddenly this morning ,the CD/DVD Creative DVD
oe-1 will only read Audio and DVD disks.
Data disks lock drive up, no menu comes up, and are shown in My Computer as empty disks.
Audio disks play fine as well as DVD movies.The data disks are read in another drive.
Any help is appreciated.
