Phil and all:
Here are the instructions that come with the connector itself. ... There is
no mention of soldering anything. .... I'd be interested in everyone's
continuing thoughts:
Shakespeare Centerpin PL 259 Cp G Connector
gold plated brass
connector for RG-8x and RG-58/Au Coax
1. Cut the coax clean and flush. Slide cover ring, o ring, and larger
coupling ring onto cable, threads facing connector. RG-58 only: place nylon
adapter over end of coax.
2. Push coax into the connector. Be sure connector's center pin penetrates
the center conductor.
3. Using pliers, carefully and evenly squeeze opposite pairs of the
piercing fingers (on the knurled points) through the coax's outer jacket and
into the shield.
4. Slide o ring up to the piercing fingers, tighten cover ring over fingers
and screw the larger coupling ring onto the connector body.
