I know what you mean, after having spent an hour figuring it out tonight 
when downloading the Radio Amateur Antenna Handbook from their site.

I don't even know if I can remember what I did, but you put the book or 
books you want on your book shelf, and then download them from there.

Once the book or books are downloaded, you have to sync the download to your 
playing device (VR Stream or whatever), after which time it will put the 
material right onto your S D card.

I did all of this with a card reader, but perhaps it can be done with the VR 
Stream Companion software.

I didn't have the patience to try to figure out the VR Stream Companion 
thing, since I do my downloading of audio books with a card reader.

I don't know if this helps, so if you still have problems, let me know, and 
I'll wrack my brain harder to try and figure out what I did.
