Over-processing isn't the only reason for splatter.  Sometimes people force 
too much high or low frequency audio into their transmitters in an attempt 
to get "high fidelity" sound.  Some transmitters can run much wider than 3 
KHz, so even if they aren't splattering, they create problems up and down 
the band.
