I cheated there, I went to www.packetradio.com and ordered a cable. I have
made them in the past, I used to buy any radio I could get my hands on,
usually ones with no PL tone boards or whatever so I have made cables for
radios in the past but for my current radio, a TM-271A, been running 5 years
straight and still going, I bought the cable. The idea of putting a modular
connector on doesn't appeal to me. I suppose I could do what they did and
cut an Ethernet cable but I didn't. I bought this radio because it was a
good deal from someone who couldn't figure out how to use it for some reason
and the older radios with no tone boards was fine, but I had people
digipeating through me every morning back and forth for a good 4 to 6 hours
and that sent many of the old radios to their graves. That, on top of my
heavy NTS use at the time, it's died out now but I used to handle many
hundreds and in the summer while people are on vacations thousands of
messages and almost all had a packet aspect to them somewhere. This radio
can take it though that doesn't happen so much anymore, it does happen every
now and again.
