Hi Tom.  Check that menu 61 and 62 are set to 9600 and menu 63 is set to U S 
B.  Try turning the radio off when plugging the cable in and if no dice, 
plug it in after it is on.
  Count to ten before plugging the cable in they say and I am not sure if 
that is for the radio or the person giving time to calm down hi Ed   K7UC
