Tuners inside  the Yaesu rigs are limited to 3:1 SWR or thereabouts.  The
manual for the FT950 cautions that G5RV's won't necessarily tune up on all
bands.  Some people on the FT950 reflector report success on most bands, and
others don't.  It is hard to predict how well this will work with the
internal tuner.  I would almost recommend you get your existing antenna
repaired and see how well it works with the changed solar conditions, then
possibly make more modifications.
