jeff, perhaps i'm being a pompus ass, but aren't you subscribed to this
list?
or perhaps you were unsubscribed between today and 2 years ago?
I say this because there has been loads of traffic regarding the talking
handhelds on here over the past couple years...more in the past year.
at any rate, the main one that has got everyones attention right now is the
Wouxun dual band HT with speech output of nearly everything, except vfo or
frequency readout.
The handheld is around $100 from most retailers.
It is the wouxun UDP-2d or something close to that..
It's actually caught on quite well all over the place...several local hams
have one and really like it. A couple of the techier guys have them and
have put them through their paces with all sorts of diagnostic gear and say
they are at least as good as, or perhaps slightly better than say a TH F6A
or IC T90...short of having the third band that is.
check them out at
HTTP://www.wouxun.us

they are supposed to be releasing a dual band mobile radio very soon as
well.
