Walter:

Here are my steps for cross-banding with the TMV71A.

1. Set your V F O A. to the repeater you want to use. Let's say for this
example, it's a local 2-meter repeater. If this is already in one of your
memory channels, just access it, and leave it alone.

2. Set V F O B. to the 440 frequency you want to listen on. Let's just
say it's 449.900. Make sure that you have no off-set for this 440
frequency, since you don't want to be transmitting accidentally somewhere
else.

3. Set menu 403 to "cross".

4. Turn your TMV71A off.

5. Turn it back on holding the tone button while you power up the rig. If
you do this right, you'll hear a single beep that is a little higher than
the usual default beep on the radio. This little beep will tell you that
you are in true cross-band mode.

6. Now, take your HT, and transmit on your 440 frequency. When you un-key,
you should hear your local 2-meter repeater coming through the 440
cross-band frequency.

Some people suggest that you should put a tone on the 440 frequency, so as
to limit inter-mod and other undesirable effects, but I have never done that
yet, at least in the cross-banding I've done so far.

I can't exactly tell you how to do the ID during crossbanding, since I'm
still trying to figure that out myself. Stay tuned to the list, and
hopefully, someone will help us with that one.

Finally, regarding the IS, I am not sure whether cross-banding is needed, so
I'll defer to others on that score.

Hope this helps at least a little.
