I don't know the answer to your question, but have wondered the same thing
myself.
The other thing is that, at least for me, some sighted assistance was
required to conduct the earlier firmware upgrade to 1.04. This is because
Jaws simply didn't read everything on the screen that was needed to do the
upgrade successfully.
Fortunately, for me, my XYL is sighted, and is a ham, but others are not as
fortunate as I am.

What most of those on the 590 list don't understand is that we have to worry
about accessibility issues. Where they may be getting what they think is a
new radio out of the box with an update, we have to consider how accessible
it is in comparison with the old software. I wonder if there is a way to
test the new update, and if you don't like it, go back to the old version.
