It's a bit difficult, but here's how I did it.
Locate the cover, and press down slightly on it, while at the same time,
pulling the cover toward you.
It should snap free fairly easily.

Gary,
The external speaker jack is on the front of the radio under a plastic
cover. The jack on the control head is for headphones, which means it is
padded down.
