Is your dwelling a rental, or is it attached to others?
If the answer to both of these questions is "No," then consider
re-thinking not attaching either the center support, or one end of the
antenna to the house.
Otherwise, the only way you will get a self-supporting mast is to
transplant a large tree, or erect 40 feet or so of tower disguised as
whatever kind of tree fits into your neighborhood.
The support I am about to mention will not be self-supporting, but it
is easy to obtain.
Get hold of the April, 2010 QST, and read the item in Hints and Kinks
about using two or more uni-struts as an antenna support.
Someone has already mentioned wood or PVC pipe as a possibility, but
this too must be guyed.
