Question of the day--When were screws invented?

Well, God invented the bryozoan Archimedes about 340 million years ago.
I let y'all decide for yourselves which god.

A man later named the fossil Archimedes. This was in honor of the
mathematician Archimedes who invented a screw device to move water.

Some claim that the actual invention came from somewhere else, perhaps
what is today Iraq, and that Archimedes just descrived and elaborated
upon an earlier invention. These people don't worship the Greeks as
the font of all wisdom. Quick, list the Greek Gods.

The earliest screws that I've seen with heads were wood screws used to
hold side plates on what was a 15th century firearm. I doubt that the
nameless individual was the inventer. One might be safe to credit
Anonymous, pre 15th century, as the inventor. I don't think that
Anomyous is a god, but he/she gets cited a lot.

Ralph, You should know it's the American Screwdriver Institute I'm
interested in. Now that should perk anyone up and keep them awake
nights!!! BTW: Question of the day--When were screws invented? I
would
assume that screwdrivers weren't needed before screws existed. Have a
wonderful week, Ruth

Honey, not to worry. Boring things have consumed great parts of ALL of

rest of us anything, either. But we walk around in a hurry and then we

Anybody else up for chipping in to pay Ruth's dues as a member of the
American Concrete Institute? Or the American Plywood Association, if it
still exists?

Welcome to life in the big city. ZZZZZZZZZZZ.
