Mike,
Does MMTTY know to use the Signal Link sound card? There is a sound
card tab under the setup mmtty dropdown menu. Read the mmtty help file
on soundcard selection.
I may have misunderstood your first post yesterday, I thought you said
you were getting some clear english text and were just having trouble
fine tuning the station.
If you are on a clear freq with no RTTY tones and are getting a steady
stream of garbage , you are either overloading the sound card, or hum or
hash is confusing the decoder.
If the Signal Link is connected via some sort of data jack, there should
be a menu to limit audio output from the rig. If connected via a
speaker or headphone jack, back down the volume.
Try setting the Signal Link input control to mid point (about 12
o'clock), then reduce the audio output from the radio until the garbage
stops, then look for a rtty signal.
If you reduce the audio output from the radio all the way, and the
garbage is still there, then maybe some hum is getting from the pc.
All of this assumes that the software knows what sound card to use.
As Steve just suggested, setting to RTTY or FSK mode on the rig can help
in getting rx set up, but since you plan to transmit in AFSK, you will
sooner or later need to get rx working in SSB.
