You can also buy a purpose-built USB or Firewire connected external burner.
I have seen several models on the shelf of my local Walmart of all places.
Check Newegg and a few other websites, and you should find them at a better
price than Walmart (that and I hate giving money to Walmart).

Yes, you can get a USB enclosure and put the CD burner in there to
attach it to the laptop. I've never had an external drive so I will let
others of the group recommend specific enclosures to use.
