If we are on the same page here, interfacing the external tuner to the 
radio overides the internal tuner.  So you really don't have to "turn 
off" the internal tuner.  Pushing the tune button on the radio will 
activate the external tuner and the internal tuner is bypassed.   That's 
why I had said that if you were trying to use both tuners at the same 
time you would need to break that interface connection, either 
physically, or in a menu.  Or just not interface at all and use the tune 
buttons on the radio and tuner independently.

Another thing to consider is that some of these tuners will attempt to 
tune automatically when rf is detected and swr is high.  At least in the 
MFJ unit, this can be bypassed, perhaps in the LDG as well.
