Yep, you are right, I always use the rigs tuner with the amp, turn the 
amp on and hit tune on the radio.  I don't have an external tuner, so 
that would change things, as we discussed a while back.  The first amp I 
ran was grounded grid and no tuned input.  The heath kit sb 200 and 
yaesu 2100 did have tuned inputs on each band.
