Today again we ate at Austin's Restaurant on the western edge of
Reading, PA and I was reminded how good their food is and thought to
pass it on to the list in case anybody is looking for a place to eat.
I have no financial or other interest except as a customer who wants a
good meal. We found Austin's a couple years ago because they mailed out
gift cards to everybody in our area to draw in new customers.
They have a gluten free menu that includes making recipes with gluten
free pasta. Their menu warns you that french fries are subject to
contamination from the fry oil. There are at least 8 or 10 entrees that
you can order gluten free by omitting a sauce or other item.
Today my husband ordered their wonderful onion soup which we have
ordered in the past minus croutons on an occasion when we did not
request a gluten free menu. The server told us she thought it had
gluten anyway. She went to check in the kitchen and sure enough the
beef base (they make their own soups) included gluten in some form. But
she was on the ball and knew this. The food all came as ordered, was
very good, and we had no bad effects from it. We had chicken cordon
bleu made with broiled chicken, tavern ham and a slice of cheese. I had
garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw. My husband had their meaty baked
beans and cole slaw. The entrees run from $9 up and include 2 regular
sides. There are also premium sides for which you pay additional.
Their broiled items including steaks and burgers are flame broiled and
delicious.
We have eaten there and at the Lancaster, PA location which is on the
outer edge of stores at Park City Mall at least a dozen times over the
last 2 years or so and the food has always been good. We like the
Reading location because you can park much closer and don't have to deal
with the lines at the mall. Wehave the staff knowledgeable about gluten
free foods at both Reading and Lancaster. There are other locations but
we have not eaten there. You can find all the details at their website
below.
