Hi Eric, In terms of blind folks, the ones I know are Jack McSpadden ,
wa5rop, and I who have both had and successfully used 703+s,, and Gary lee
and Ron miller, both on this list, currently have either 703 or
703+Radios/meaning that they have six meters as well as HF.
HRD will work them, as will a qsyer. There's a good reflector for the rig
also. I had and liked the 703+, its' tuner is better than lots of tuners,
and the radio does pretty well. Either get one new, or get one which has
had the basic three helpful mods,/key jack, and two others, the names of
which I forget, but all of which will cause problems if not fixed, and all
of which, Icom was fixxing for free/three or so years ago.
If you have Icom do the sixty meter mod, they were charging thirty dollars
to do that.
I personally still like the 817 better, but that's a personal choice---I
sold my 703+ years ago. HTH, Danny.
