Well I just ordered the Palomar, hope it works.
But,my experience with the noise bridge with its dials was somewhat
possitive.
Accept, won't work for us, since you need to set the dials, then set your
antenna up, or your tuner till you get no noise in the circuit.
But, this tuner tuner seems just the right kind of technology.
Anyway I'll give it a try.
I grew up tuning for maximum smoke. My first radio was a Globe Chief 90a,
which had to be tuned. I could tune it up by the hum of the laminations in
the final transformer.
When ig grewquiet, I knew I was nearing resonance.
But, now things are a littlemore efficient.
The concept of a tuner isn't that difficult.
Bassically, you have a box that fools the rig into thinking that it's seeing
a resonant antenna. The trick for us is to set up the box so it's fooling
the rig as you want by presenting it with an swr that's like 1.1 to 1.
It'sa bit like fly fishing someone once said.
I tend to tune up through the receiver first, tuning for maximum sound, then
right now, I use the ts440 with its automatic tuner.
I can jockey the tuner if the ts440 can't cope, until it stopps hunting for
the resonant point.
It's something you have to play with for a bit.
