Hello Listmates,
Have you come back to earth after celebrating the exciting news about the
FDA gluten-free labeling rules? I must admit, I've had a hard time thinking
about anything else since the announcement on Friday. It's been a long time
coming.
If you are like me, now you probably want to know some of the details. I
found this helpful list of FAQs on the FDA web site.
http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInform
ation/Allergens/ucm362880.htm
In addition, over the past 9+ years while we waited for news from the FDA, a
few folks worked tirelessly behind the scenes to move this important rule
through the system: Andrea Levario, Executive Director of the American
Celiac Disease Alliance; Alessio Fasano, MD, Director of the Center for
Celiac Research at Mass General Hospital; Congresswoman Nita Lowey, (D- NY);
the people at Glutino, Boulder Brands and Enjoy Life Foods; and the team
behind the Giant Cake project, aka 1in133/It's a BIG DEAL (Jules Shepard,
John Forberger, Lee Tobin, and Aaron Flores).
I hope you will raise a glass to them next time you gather around the dinner
table and partake of some delicious gluten-free treats.
Yours in Good Health!
Beth Hillson
President, American Celiac Disease Alliance
