I would assume ground penetrating radar or pachometer (cover meter) could help but we have looked at deep drilling for installing very long Cintec anchors and were going to have a specialty contractor do the work. It did not happen but I could get their name for you. I don't know exactly how "they" monitor their bits.

Subject: [BP] need some help, core bit detection in brick masonry



I need help in figuring out how to determine in real-time the depth and 

x.y.z location of a core bit within a 30" width of brick masonry wall as 

we drill down through the wall 40'. The primary intent is to keep the 

core bit at a 15" horizontal depth in the wall.... the undesired result 

is if the core bit pops out of the wall.
