I love the Permastone facades in Baltimore's inner harbor neighborhoods. I especially love the correspondingly unique painted screens and scrubbed white marble stoops. These three elements really do go together in creating a memorable neighborhood character.
During a visit to Baltimore last weekend, I visited the Visionary Art Museum (not to be missed!!!) and learned about a screenpainters society, teaching their art and preserving this decorative treatment on the old rowhouses.

fyi: ...the Hamden Village Main Street Program in Baltimore is that “
while Formstone removal may also be included as a façade improvement,
applicants are encouraged to keep Formstone that is in good condition as it is a
distinctive part of Baltimore’s unique heritage.”
