Mark,

Actually, the tuners don't do anything more than fake the radio into 
thinking that the SWR is low.  With a non-resonant antenna, you may be doing 
nothing more than transmitting on your antenna leads, which may account for 
all the RF floating around your shack and confusing your TW-1.
