Hi Colleen,
I just purchased an 8 GB Toshiba USB 8GTR drive and it works perfectly. I
have just posted a message to the Blind Tech list and I will paste the
snippet I sent to them below.
I have good news. The Toshiba model usb 8GTR thumb drive works perfectly
with the new NLS digital players. The bookshelf and all the advanced
features work properly and there is never a cartridge error when the drive
is inserted. Where ever you go for your USB thumb drive, make sure to
insist to any tech support person that it not contain a meter or any U3
formatting.
The only draw back (and that is probably my clumsiness rather than a
fundamental issue) is that while I had success with one of the large U3
drives in inserting the drive into the front slot--rather than the side
slot, with the Toshiba, it is smaller and thus for me, much more difficult
to insert it into the front slot. It is however, an inch smaller than the
other drive I tried and therefore a bit less likely to catch on an object
external to the NLS player when being plugged into the side slot. Perhaps
some of you more nimble-fingered and younger VI folk will find this to be
not such a problem as I do.

Hi,
The NLS Talking book suplier in Colufus told me that the Thum Drives should
be 4 gb or less.
The smaller beize works better. If you try to use a larger one it will not
work according to our Talking Book Distributor in Ohio.
The drives are really cheap.
I bought them for 6 for $32.50 because I wanted to have several books
downloaded at once.
You can only download one book per flashdrive.
The quality of the recording and the sound on the player are wonderful.
My husband who hasn't read a Talking Book in well over 30 years has signed
up again with the Library.
TheBard site is easy to use and works with note-takers too.
