And I use Jay Robb's protein powder. It's not cheap but it is a very good product.

Jim:

The 100 gram a day idea no doubt stems from Dr Kellog's clinic in Battle

Creek a century ago - he invented corn flakes to rid us of protein in favor

of carbos! That number might work for bed ridden persons, notorious for

rapid onset muscle wasting due to inactivity and poor diet.

1.5 to 2 grams per pound of bodyweight is pretty much the standard for hard

training persons. The only contradiction I know to that is Dr Darden's

outdated 60% carbo diet.

Gluconeogenesis is not automatic, rather an on demand response. Long

distance runners suffer from muscle wasting due to that process stripping

muscle of branch chain amino acids, the ones used in glyconeogenesis - not

all aminos are subject to that process. Incidently, more energy is consumed

by that process occurring in the liver than is liberated in calories!

How can egg white proteins be heavy on soy unless the product is a blend.

Soy is not indigenous to egg white. Vendors such as the Protein Factory and

Jay Robb offer 100% undiluted albumen.

Late entry to the discussion. A couple of additional points. Forgive

if they've already been discussed.

1) Adult humans need about 100g of protein a day. Anything in excess

of that is simply converted to sugar via a process called

gluconeogenesis.

2) I know of no paleo protein powders. Even the egg white ones are

heavy on soy.
