Tom,

Macs crash too, but not as often as a pc because the Mac is a closed 
proprietary system and a pc is an open architecture system.  Because the Mac 
is a closed system, you'll pay up to three times as much for everything Mac 
vs. a pc.  Voice over is built in to the operating system and I understand 
that it works pretty well with Apple software, but good luck with third 
party software.

If I was going to switch to another operating system, I'd go with Linux and 
one flavor is called Ubuntu and it comes complete with a screen reader 
called Orca and its all free.

Orca is not as good as voice over and voice over is not as good as Jaws or 
Window-Eyes.
